How to Choose the Right Paper and Finish for Your Print

A strong design deserves more than ink on paper. The stock and finish you choose can completely transform how your print is received, adding depth, professionalism and even emotion. Think of it as the difference between a design that looks good on-screen and one that feels premium in the hand.

At WTTB, every product comes with paper and lamination options built into the configurator. Whether you’re designing wedding invitations, eco-friendly flyers or luxury packaging inserts, this guide explains each option in plain English so you can make confident choices.

Understanding paper types

The stock you select is the foundation of your print. Here’s how the most popular options compare:

Silk coated has a smooth, slightly shiny surface that holds colour beautifully. It’s vibrant, professional and ideal for flyers, menus, brochures and leaflets.

Uncoated offers a soft, matte finish that’s easy to write on and perfect for notepads, letterheads and clean, modern brands.

Kraft is brown, textured and made from recycled materials. It gives a natural, earthy feel and works well for eco-friendly packaging, menus and boutique branding.

Sirio Pearl and Gesso are specialist stocks. Sirio Pearl has a subtle shimmer that feels elegant, while Gesso has a textured, art-paper quality. Both are perfect for wedding stationery, luxury cards and high-end gift vouchers.

Lamination options

For many products, you can add a laminate to change the final look and feel.

  • Matt lamination is smooth and glare-free, creating a modern, understated finish.
  • Gloss lamination is shiny and reflective, making colours pop — perfect for menus or bold marketing pieces.
  • Soft-touch lamination feels almost like velvet. It adds an ultra-premium touch that works beautifully for packaging, invitations and luxury stationery.

Scodix, spot UV and foiling

When you want to add texture or highlight details, embellishments make the difference.

Spot UV adds a glossy shine to chosen areas of your design, creating subtle contrast.

Scodix works in a similar way but with a raised finish for a more tactile effect. Available in clear, it’s often used for logos, headlines or accents.

Gold and silver Scodix simulate traditional foiling at a lower cost. They add a classic metallic look to premium wedding invitations, gift cards and branded packaging.

Wedding stationery

For wedding invitations and stationery, the right stock and finish elevate the design. With WTTB you can:

  • Choose from silk, kraft, Sirio Pearl or Gesso papers
  • Add soft-touch, gloss or matt lamination
  • Apply gold or silver foil, Spot UV or Scodix for highlights
  • Select square or rounded corners, single or double-sided print

The result is stationery that doesn’t just look good — it feels magical.

Going greener with recycled paper

If sustainability matters to your brand, WTTB’s Recycled Print Range is the answer. These 100% recycled stocks are FSC® certified, uncoated and writable, while still delivering crisp, clean print results. They’re ideal for eco-conscious flyers, menus, inserts and stationery.

With the right stock and finish, your print goes beyond looking good — it makes the right impression.

Quick FAQ

What’s the best paper for flyers or menus? Silk is vibrant and durable; kraft is ideal for rustic or eco styles.

What’s the difference between matt, gloss and soft-touch lamination? Matt is smooth and non-shiny, gloss is reflective and colourful, soft-touch feels velvet-like and premium.

What’s the difference between Spot UV and Scodix? Both highlight design details. Spot UV is flat, while Scodix is raised and available in clear, gold or silver.

Can I order recycled print? Yes. Our recycled range is fully FSC® certified and made from 100% recycled stock.

Can I get samples before ordering? Definitely. Request a free sample pack to compare paper types and finishes.

Choosing the right paper and finish is as important as the design itself. From silk flyers to soft-touch invitations or eco-friendly recycled stock, the right choice changes how your audience sees—and feels—your print. With WTTB’s configurator, sample packs and expert support, you don’t have to guess. Just design, choose your finish and let Print Sorcery do the rest.
