Bespoke
A custom print job made to your exact requirements when a standard product option is not suitable. This extends to custom sizes, speciality stocks, tailored packing and more.
Binding
Binding is how the pages are held together. There are multiple methods of binding, for example, staples, glue, wire or thread.

Bleed
The bleed is additional design that extends past the edge of your artwork. This is important, because when your artwork is trimmed, there are no white edges.

Canva
Canva is an online design platform used to create artwork for print, including flyers, posters, business cards, booklets and other printed products. The WTTB Canva Hub brings together Canva print templates, tutorials, a Canva checklist, blog articles and a list of comprehensive Canva products to help customers design and prepare print-ready artwork.
Before ordering, check that your Canva artwork includes the correct size, bleed, safe zones and file export settings so it is suitable for professional printing.

Clearance
Clearance printing includes discounted print products, end of line items and surplus stock available for a limited time while stocks last. It is a useful way to save on selected printed products, materials and ranges when clearance offers are available.
CMYK
CMYK is a four colour printing process that uses cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks to reproduce full colour artwork on paper. It is the standard colour model used for commercial printing.
Crease
A crease is a line pressed into paper or card to create a controlled fold, helping it bend cleanly without cracking. It is commonly used for greetings cards.
Creep
Creep is when the inner pages of a folded booklet stick out slightly beyond the outer pages because of paper thickness. It is planned for in the artwork and trimmed after binding so the finished booklet looks neat and even.
Crop Marks
Crop Marks are small lines on the artwork that show where the finished print will be cut to size. You do not need to add them for WTTB, because they are already included on the templates.
Debossing
Debossing is a finishing technique where a design is pressed into paper or card to create a recessed, indented impression. It adds subtle texture and depth without using ink.

Die-Cut
Die cut is when a printed piece is cut using a custom cutting tool to ensure it finishes in a specific shape, rather than a standard rectangle. It is often used for presentation folders to create accurate pockets, among other things.
Digital Printing
Digital printing is a modern print method that produces work directly from a digital file, making it ideal for short runs and fast turnaround.
DPI (Dots per Inch)
DPI, or Dots per Inch, describes how sharp an image will print. The higher the DPI, the more detail in an image. For best quality print files, WTTB recommends supplying images at 300 DPI.
Drill Holes
Drill holes is the process of punching small holes through printed sheets, so they can be filed in binders, inserted into folders or be hung for display.
Dummy
A dummy is a sample or mock up made to show how a printed item will look and feel once finished. It helps check size, page order, folds and binding before full production.

Dust Jacket
A dust jacket is a removable printed paper cover that wraps around a hardback book to protect it and add extra space for design and information. It usually includes flaps that fold inside the front and back covers.

Embossing
Embossing is a finishing technique where a design is pressed from underneath to raise it above the surface, creating a textured 3D effect. It is often used for logos, titles and details on premium print.

Endpapers
Endpapers are the sheets at the front and back of a hardback book that connects the text block to the inside of the cover. They add strength to the binding and can be left plain or printed for extra impact.
Eyelets
Eyelets are small metal rings fitted into a banner or sign to reinforce holes for tying, hanging or fixing in place. They help prevent tearing and make the finished piece more durable.

Express Print is a fast turnaround printing service for customers who need urgent print produced and dispatched quickly. Orders placed before the product cut off time can be dispatched the same day for next working day delivery, helping reduce delays on time sensitive print jobs.

Finished Size
Finished size is the final trimmed size of your printed item once it has been cut and any finishing has been applied. It is the size the product will be when it arrives.

Flat Size
Flat size is the full size of your artwork before any folding, trimming, or binding is applied. It shows the overall dimensions of the piece while it is still laid out flat.
Font
A font is the specific style of lettering used for text in your design, such as its shape and weight. Choosing the right font helps set the tone and keeps your artwork readable.
Gloss Paper
Gloss paper is a smooth, shiny paper finish that makes colours appear brighter and more vibrant. It is often used for photos, flyers, and marketing materials where you want strong colour impact.
Grain Direction
Grain direction is the way the paper fibres are aligned within a sheet. Folding with the grain helps the paper bend cleanly and reduces the risk of cracking, especially on thicker stocks.

Grammage (GSM)
Grammage, measured in GSM, is the weight of paper per square metre and is used to indicate how thick and sturdy a sheet will feel. A higher GSM usually means a thicker, heavier stock.
Gutter
The gutter is the inner margin next to the binding where two pages meet in a booklet or book. Keeping important text and details out of the gutter helps ensure they stay visible after binding.
Guillotine
A guillotine is a cutting machine used to trim printed sheets to their finished size with a clean straight edge. It is used for precise trimming during production.
Image Library
An image library is a collection of ready to use visuals that can support print design, marketing and campaign planning. Imposition
Imposition is the layout of pages on a print sheet so they end up in the correct order and orientation after folding, binding, and trimming. It ensures the finished booklet or book reads properly from start to finish.
InDesign
InDesign is an Adobe design program used to create print ready layouts such as books, brochures, and magazines. It is commonly used because it handles pages, typography, and export settings suited to professional printing.
Ink Set-Off
Ink set off is when wet or slow drying ink transfers from one printed sheet onto another, leaving unwanted marks. It is more common in litho printing and can happen when sheets are stacked before the ink has fully dried.
Lamination
Lamination is a thin plastic film applied to printed material to protect it and enhance its look and feel. Common options include matt, gloss, and soft touch lamination.
Landscape
Landscape describes a page orientation where the layout is wider than it is tall. It is often used for presentations, images, and designs that need extra horizontal space.

Large Format
Leaflet Distribution
Leaflet distribution is a service where your printed leaflets are delivered to homes or businesses in a chosen area. It is used to target specific locations for local marketing and promotions.
Lithography
Litho print, is a traditional printing method where ink is transferred from plates onto paper, making it ideal for high volume runs and consistent high quality results. It is commonly used for magazines, brochures, and other large print quantities.
Low Resolution
Low resolution, or low res, describes an image that does not have enough detail for sharp printing, so it can look blurry or pixelated. For best results, print images are typically supplied at 300 DPI.

NCR Paper
NCR paper is a carbonless paper that creates duplicate copies when you write on the top sheet. It is commonly used for order pads, invoices, and delivery notes.

Numbering
Numbering is a print feature where each item is given a unique sequential number, often used for tickets, vouchers, and forms. It helps with tracking, security, and record keeping.
Orientation
Orientation describes how your artwork is set, either portrait which is taller than it is wide or landscape which is wider than it is tall.
For folded items, orientation refers to the flat artwork before folding, and artwork can be single sided or double sided depending on whether you are printing one side or both sides.

Pagination
Pagination is the page numbering of a document and the order those pages are set in for print. It helps ensure multi page items are arranged and read correctly.
Pantone
Pantone, also called a spot colour or PMS, is a standardised ink colour system used to match specific colours accurately in print. It is often chosen for brand colours where consistency matters across different print runs.

A PDF, or Portable Document Format, is a file format that preserves your layout, fonts, and images, making it the preferred format for supplying print artwork. Print ready PDFs help ensure what you send is what gets produced.
Perfect Binding
Perfect binding, or PUR binding, is a bookbinding method where pages are glued into a spine to create a soft cover book. PUR uses a stronger adhesive, giving a more durable bind than standard perfect binding.
Personalisation
Personalisation is printing where text or details change on each copy, such as names, codes, or addresses. It is commonly used for direct mail and tailored marketing.
Printed Pages (PP)
PP means printed pages and it counts each printed side, so a sheet printed on both sides is two PP. It is often used to describe page counts for books and brochures.
Pre-Flight
Pre-flight is the process of checking your artwork before printing to catch issues such as missing bleed, low resolution images, or incorrect fonts. It helps ensure your file is print ready and will produce the expected result.
Pre-Press
Pre press is the stage where artwork is prepared for printing, including file checks, proofing, and creating print ready output. It covers everything that happens before the job goes onto the press.
Press
A press is the printing machine that applies ink or toner to produce your printed product. The term can also refer to the stage of production where the job is being printed.

Printed sides refers to whether your artwork is printed on one side of the sheet or on both sides. It is often described as single sided or double sided printing.

A proof is a preview of your artwork produced before the full print run to check layout, content, and colour. It helps spot any issues before the job goes into production.
QR Codes
A QR code is a scannable square code that lets people use a phone camera to open a website or access digital content from a printed item. WTTB offers CAMIcodes, which work in a similar way to connect print to online content such as landing pages, menus, downloads, or contact details.
RGB
RGB is a colour mode used for screens that mixes red, green, and blue light to create colour. Because printing uses inks rather than light, RGB colours can shift when converted to CMYK for print.
Registration
Registration is how accurately different colours line up during printing so the final image looks sharp and correct. Poor registration can cause coloured edges or a blurred effect where colours do not align.

Rich Black
Rich black is a darker, more saturated black created by combining black ink with one or more CMYK inks. It is often used for large solid areas to give a deeper black than using black ink alone.
A common CMYK code for rich black is C60 M40 Y40 K100.
Round Corners
Round corners are a finishing option where sharp corners are trimmed into a smooth curved shape. It gives a softer look and can help reduce corner wear on items handled often.
Uncoated Paper
Uncoated paper is a stock with a natural non shiny surface and a more textured feel than coated papers. It is easy to write on and gives print a softer, more muted look.
UV Varnish
UV varnish is a clear coating applied to print to add protection and a glossy finish, then cured instantly using UV light. It can be applied overall or to selected areas for extra impact.

VAT
VAT, or value added tax, is a tax included in the price shown, so the total you see is the total you pay. Some WTTB products are available VAT free, depending on the product type and use.
Versions
Versions are variations of the same design printed with small changes between copies, such as different offers, locations, or text. They are useful when you need multiple similar designs without creating completely separate jobs.
White Space
White space is the empty area around text and images that helps a design feel clear, balanced, and easy to read. It improves hierarchy and gives important content room to stand out.
