Meet Matthew: When an extra check really matters

When print matters most, automation isn’t enough; Matthew, our WTTB prepress specialist, provides expert human-led checks to catch issues, protect artwork, and give customers confidence before files go to print.

Most print orders move smoothly through automated systems. That is exactly how it should be.

But sometimes, customers want more certainty. When the artwork is complex, the finish is unforgiving, or the result really matters, that is when an expert eye makes the difference.

That is where Matthew comes in.

Matthew has been with WTTB for over two years, working within the design and studio team alongside Dan and Chris. His role focuses on one specific part of the customer journey: providing in-depth, human-led artwork checks for customers who choose extra reassurance before their files go to print.

With a background in graphic design and a strong specialism in print, Matthew brings a practical understanding of how artwork behaves once it leaves the screen. He has worked across a wide range of formats and understands how different print processes and finishing techniques can affect the final result. That experience allows him to spot potential issues that automated checks alone cannot always judge.

When a customer upgrades to an Expert Artwork Technical Check, their files are personally inspected by WTTB’s prepress technicians, including Matthew. This goes well beyond basic file validation. It is a detailed, structured review that looks at layout, margins, bleed, text clarity, image quality, file preparation and finishing considerations, all with the aim of preventing unexpected outcomes at print stage.

Matthew’s role is not to redesign artwork, but to protect it.

He looks at how content sits within safe zones, whether important elements could be affected by trimming or binding, and whether text, images and layout choices will hold up at the final printed size. Where potential issues are found, he identifies them clearly and presents practical guidance, helping customers understand what to adjust to achieve the best possible result.

This work closely reflects how the WTTB website supports customers in the first place. The site is designed to guide users through complex products with templates, explanations and clear setup instructions. The Expert Artwork Technical Check extends that support further, offering confidence at the final stage for customers who want it.

For customers, the benefit is simple. They know their files have been reviewed by someone who understands print, not just software. They gain clarity, reassurance and the opportunity to make informed changes before production begins.

For Matthew, the most rewarding part of the role is being part of a supportive, caring team that shares the same goal: helping customers get the outcome they expect. Not through guesswork, but through experience and attention.

Automation handles the majority.

Expert checks handle the moments that matter.

A quiet piece of Print Sorcery, applied exactly where it counts.
