Choosing the right fold can transform a simple sheet of paper into a multi-panel narrative. Below are the technical specifications for our most popular folding configurations.
Simple Folds
Ideal for menus, newsletters, and simple brochures.
Half Fold: A single fold down the centre creates four panels (two on the front and two on the back).
Cross Fold: Combines a vertical and horizontal fold to create a compact format with eight panels (four on the front and four on the back).
Parallel Folds
These folds are perfect for step-by-step guides or detailed price lists.
Z Fold: Creates a zig-zag or accordion-like structure with two parallel folds, forming six panels.
Roll Fold: Each panel folds sequentially into the next, creating a rolling effect. It results in eight panels. Note: In a roll fold, the inner panels are usually trimmed slightly smaller to allow them to sit flat when folded.
Concertina Fold: A continuous zig-zag fold comprised of eight panels (four on each side).
Specialist Folds
These high-impact folds are used for "reveals" or large-scale information like maps.
Gate Fold: Two side panels fold inward to meet in the middle, resembling a gate. This creates six panels and is ideal for "grand opening" invitations or premium brochures.
Map Fold: A complex configuration that combines a concertina fold with an additional inward fold. This creates sixteen panels (eight on each side), allowing a large sheet to be condensed into a pocket-sized finished size.
