Design guidelines
To make artwork setup simple, download the relevant template from the Production templates section above. Follow the instructions provided and remember to remove the 'Guide' layer before exporting your artwork as a PDF.
For the best printing results, ensure your artwork and images are in CMYK. If you use RGB, Pantone or spot colours, these will be converted to CMYK during production, which may affect how your colours appear in print.
To avoid font issues, make sure all fonts are embedded or converted to outlines before exporting your PDF. For readability, we recommend using a minimum font size of 10pt.
For the best print quality, aim for images between 300dpi and 450dpi at their final print size. Lower resolutions may appear blurry or pixelated, while higher resolutions can increase file sizes. Check product template for any specific requirements.
To avoid alignment issues during cutting, include crop marks with a 10mm offset and document bleed when exporting your artwork as a PDF. Refer to the relevant product template for the required bleed specifications, as these vary by product.
All artwork must be supplied as a print ready PDF. We recommend exporting in Adobe PDF (Print) format, ideally using the PDF/X 1a:2001 standard.

Designing with Canva
We offer free Canva templates for many of our products, complete with the correct dimensions, bleed and safe zones. Where available, you'll find the Canva template in the Production templates section above, ready to open and personalise.
Once your design is complete, download it as a PDF Print file and return to our website to place your order and upload your artwork. Remember to remove any guide layers before exporting.

Canva uses RGB colour mode by default, which is designed for screens rather than print. For the best printing results, make sure you select CMYK when exporting your artwork. Converting from RGB to CMYK can cause slight colour shifts, so always check your exported PDF carefully before uploading to avoid unexpected results.
Need help with colours? Read our Canva colour guide.
Use fonts of at least 10pt to maintain legibility and keep important text within the safe zone. Use images at 300dpi or higher at their final size to avoid blurry or pixelated results.
Need help with image quality? Read our artwork resolution guide or watch our YouTube tutorial on how to export Canva designs for print.
Extend backgrounds, colours and images into the bleed area to avoid unwanted white edges after trimming. Keep important text, logos and design elements within the safe zone, and follow the bleed requirements for your chosen product.
Need help setting up bleed? Read our Canva bleed setup guide.
When exporting your finished design from Canva, select PDF Print and enable 'Crop Marks and Bleed'. This ensures your artwork includes the necessary bleed for printing. Remember to remove any template guides before downloading your file.

Leaflet Folding Types Explained
Not sure which leaflet fold is right for your design? Watch our Leaflet Folding Types Explained video guide to explore different fold styles and learn how to choose the best format for your content.
Which leaflet fold should I choose?
Choose your fold around how you want readers to move through your content.
Available page counts depend on your chosen fold. For diagrams and further guidance, explore our leaflet fold types guide.
“pp” means printed pages. Each face of a panel counts as one page, including the front and back covers.
A half fold leaflet has two panels with two sides each, giving four pages, or 4pp. A six page leaflet has three panels on each side of the flat sheet. These are sections of one folded sheet, not separate sheets of paper.
The named format in the size selector refers to the finished folded size. The dimensions labelled Flat Size show the sheet before folding.
For example, an A5 half fold leaflet has a finished size of 148 × 210mm and a flat size of 210 × 297mm. Prepare your artwork at the flat size using the template for your selected fold. For custom leaflet sizes, choose Custom and check the dimensions against your intended folded format.
Supply a two page PDF at the flat size, with one complete layout for each side of the sheet. Arrange the panels according to the template for your chosen fold, rather than supplying each panel as a separate PDF page.
Check the position and orientation of the front cover, back cover and inner content carefully. Printing a test copy and folding it is a useful way to check the reading order before uploading your artwork.
No. Some folds need narrower inner panels so they can tuck inside neatly. Roll folds, for example, should not automatically be divided into equal sections.
Use the template for your exact fold, size and page count. Follow its panel widths and fold positions, and keep important text and logos clear of the folds.
Yes. Select Single Fold to specify a custom fold position.
Add a 2mm dotted magenta line outside the trim box, aligned with the intended fold position. This helps our production team confirm where the fold should sit, particularly when the design does not clearly show the panel boundaries.
Keep the marker outside the printable artwork so it does not appear on your finished leaflet.
Silk offers a smooth finish with a subtle sheen and suits many business leaflets. Gloss has a shinier surface that works well with colourful images. Uncoated has a natural matt feel and is a practical choice if you need to write on the leaflet. Recycled paper offers another option with a natural finish.
Lighter papers suit promotional handouts and leaflets with several folds. Heavier stocks give menus, price lists and presentation pieces a more substantial feel. Available weights and finishes depend on the paper and folding configuration you select.
Your leaflets are supplied folded, ready to use. The technique depends on the paper weight.
Papers of 170gsm and below are crash folded, meaning the crease is formed as the paper is folded. Heavier papers receive a separate crease before folding to help the thicker material bend cleanly and reduce the risk of cracking along the fold.
Yes, depending on your chosen paper and folding specification. Gloss lamination adds shine, matt provides a low sheen finish, and soft touch gives a velvety feel. Gold or silver foil adds metallic detail, while spot UV highlights selected areas with a raised glossy finish.
Keep foil and spot UV at least 2mm away from trim edges and fold lines. These effects require dedicated artwork, so follow our gold foil, silver foil or spot UV setup guide.
Yes. Use Versions to order different designs with the same size, fold, paper and finishing specifications. Enter the number of designs under Versions and the number of copies needed for each under Quantity Per Version.
For example, 3 versions with a quantity of 100 per version gives you 300 folded leaflets in total. Be sure to supply separate artwork for each design.
Some folded leaflets qualify for zero rated VAT, but this depends on their specification, content and intended use. Lamination or using the item as a ticket, voucher or form can affect whether it qualifies.
Check the VAT shown when ordering. If your leaflets have a particular function beyond providing information, confirm the VAT treatment with us before placing your order.
Turnaround times depend on your chosen product specifications and finishing options. For faster delivery, we offer express production upgrades at an additional cost.
